Make movie CDs from readable video files. Disc Workshop converts your selected files into VCD, SVCD or XVCD disc images for CD-R playback. Choose MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, plan multiple discs, or fit a whole film onto one CD.
Version 1.8.3 for Windows 11. Made by Albert Mark Burdge.
Make a Video CD or Super Video CD from your video files
Disc Workshop is a Windows VCD and SVCD creator for readable video files such as MP4. Choose Video CD (VCD) for MPEG-1, Super Video CD (SVCD) for MPEG-2, or XVCD for custom MPEG-1 output. The app converts the video and authors a BIN/CUE image; burn the CUE with a suitable CD-burning program to make a CD-R for a compatible player. Custom settings may reduce player compatibility. Follow the guide to making a VCD or SVCD on Windows.
Looking to play an old MovieCD instead?
Motion Pixels MovieCD is a different format from VCD and SVCD. For original MovieCD playback or supported AVI-to-MP4 conversion, see MovieSeeD, the MovieCD player and converter.
Choose your format and disc layout
Use standard VCD for MPEG-1, SVCD for MPEG-2, or XVCD for custom MPEG-1 output. Fit a complete movie on one disc or maximize the bitrate separately for each disc. Advanced XVCD/SVCD parameters let you choose picture size, frame rate, video and audio rates, aspect ratio and GOP length. Custom output needs compatible playback hardware.
Choose breaks and finishing touches
Let quiet-audio and black-screen detection propose disc breaks, or preview the film and choose your own times in HH:MM:SS. Space plays and pauses. Optional picture/audio fades soften internal disc breaks. Add silent black before or after the video on every disc, with separate configurable durations defaulting to four seconds. Selected subtitles can be burned into the picture.
Make the controls easier to read
Low vision mode uses larger bold text, high contrast and a fixed accessibility toggle that remains available during conversion. HD and 4K sources are downscaled to standard definition for these CD formats.
Before you start
FFmpeg, FFprobe and FFplay, VCDImager and ImgBurn are separate prerequisites. Start with one assembled, readable movie file and allow ample disk space for intermediate files. The app does not remove copy protection or author DVD/Blu-ray discs.
Version 1.8.3: Left/Right frame stepping and Up/Down preview-volume shortcuts have been removed following playback issues. Use the timeline or time fields to choose breaks. Space play/pause remains available.
Read the Testing and Limitations page before relying on a particular disc/player combination.
